Bob was born in Greenfield on February 23, 1949 and was the son of Alfred and Kathleen (Moore) Smith and grew up in the Athol-Orange area, over 20 years in the Tully section of Orange.
Bob was married to Alice (Dresser) on October 16, 1972, and they have enjoyed over 48 years together.
Employed by the Town of Orange in 1992 as an equipment operator, he retired in 2011 from the Transfer Station where he worked along with his son Bobby. Bob had previously worked for Whitmore's Junk Yard and worked for himself doing home repairs and painting.
A member of the Wheelerville Community Club, Bob was also a huge New England Patriots fan.
Bob enjoyed his family and many friends and will be sadly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife, Alice Smith of Orange; a daughter, Donna Chapalonis and her husband, Paul, of Athol; son, Robert F. "Bobby" Smith Jr. and his wife, Aimee, of Orange; grandsons, Christopher Courtemanche of Orange and Nickelas Smith of Athol; granddaughters, Mariah Courtemanche of Orange and Erica Tero of Wendell; step grandchildren, Cody Bailey of Baldwinville, Ashley Bailey soon to be Reynolds, of Fitchburg, Sarah Bailey of Baldwinville, Venessa Chapalonis and Ryen Chapalonis, both of Athol; great grandchildren, Elizabeth North, Serenty Courtemanche, Aleighchia North, Dylan North, all of Orange, Mason Tero and Emmalynn Tero, both of Wendell; many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces; a sister, Donna Elliot of Wendell; a brother, Richard Armentrout and his wife, Loretta, of Florida; and many friends.
Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by a daughter, Melina Dresser on September 7, 2014, a granddaughter, Melissa Courtemanche on December 11, 1992, and brothers, David Moore and John Armentrout.
Calling hours will be held August 15, 2021 from 2- 4 p.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
Funeral services and interment in South Cemetery, Orange, will be private.
